“Look to ask” - Midas
Midas is a young working line German Shepherd. He’s fast, driven, and a little bit unclear. His go-to right now is to push and demand. These aren’t bad traits but they’re bad traits for learning.
Here he is working on looking into my eyes for direction. He tries offering positions, taking the reward, and even checking out at one point to see if there was something with an easier quid pro quo around here.
I’m using a click of my tongue to tell him he may now take the reward from my hand and a “get it” to say, grab it off the ground and come back when you’re ready. This reset let’s me check in on his mental fatigue and emotions associated with this game.
He’s working for kibble and the next session will involve me standing and walking to increase the challenge while stimulated by handler movement.
